The work of Zdeněk Mahler spans many cultural areas. In addition to prosaic works for both children and adults, the core his activities in fact lies with his work for theatre, film, and television. As an advisor he participated in preparations of Miloš Forman’s film “Amadeus” (1984) and “Goya’s Ghosts” (2007). He produced the screenplays for a number of television film and TV scripts, and he has received wide publicity as the writer and moderator of popular educational programmes. He consistently writes in non-fiction genres, dealing, in particular, with foremost music personalities; he is also involved in historical publication.
