Since the 1990s, Petr Svobodný (1958) has been systematically researching the history of medicine in the Czech lands and in the capital city of Prague. He has devoted several publications to this topic, including Pražské špitály a nemocnice (Prague Hospitals and Clinics, 1999) and Dějiny lékařství v českých zemích (History of Medicine in the Czech Lands, 2004), both written in collaboration with Ludmila Hlaváčková. He is one of the authors of Školství a vzdělanost (Education and Learning, 2020) (2020) and, together with Karel Černý, one of the editors of the volume Lékařství (Medicine), published by Paseka as part of the series Velké dějiny zemí Koruny české (The Great History of the Lands of the Czech Crown). He is the director of the Institute of History at Charles University and the Charles University Archives.
