Jan Chalupník comes from Polička, near the Žďárské vrchy hill range. Having learned to enjoy reading and foreign languages in childhood, he went on to study Russian Language and Literature at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague, working at a library at the same time. He later became a translator and reviewer. Since he has always been surrounded by books, it is perhaps unsurprising that he began to write pieces of his own.
